Today I visited the Centro and watched a parade. I basically studied the people. It is amazing to me how comfortable people are in their world. People here can appear very poor. Their homes may be bare and they don´t have many of the things that we consider a neccessity like washers and dryers and cars. But they all have maids. They seem to accept the fact that if they graduate from high school, they will have a maid to take care of all the things that they don´t want to do.
I don´t think that having a maid is a bad thing. I have had many maids in my life. I think what is negative is when one group Indigenous people are excluded from formal education and left either selling merchandise in the street or cleaning houses. It is interesting to me that many of the people here who have maids come to the United States and have to clean houses for a living because they don´t have a college education.
I think that I find the lack of choice the most offensive. If everyone had access to an education and some people chose to not pursue an education and clean houses, then I would be more comfortable.

Its a shame the indigenous people arent given the same educational opportunities as others.
